Dave Matthews Band

Dave Matthews Band was the first-ever musical group to receive Climate CoolTM certification of a performance tour. To neutralize the tour’s impact on climate change, the band offset the carbon dioxide pollution produced during the five month, 50+city tour from its energy use at the venues and hotels, as well as personnel and equipment transportation.

Working with MusicMatters® CoolToursm, the band offset more than 85% of the tour’s carbon dioxide pollution by supporting the construction of the first large-scale Native American-owned and operated wind turbine – a 750 kW turbine being built on the Rosebud Sioux Reservation in South Dakota. The turbine will reduce carbon dioxide pollution by displacing electricity that would otherwise be generated by burning fossil fuels. The remainder of the tour’s emissions were offset through afforestation efforts by the Nature Conservancy.

Receiving Climate CoolTM certification of its 2002 tour is part of the band’s larger efforts to promote awareness of global warming and climate change, to encourage individuals to take personal action and to encourage them to voice their concerns to Congress.

The Natural Resources Defense Council is “turning up the heat” to fight global warming, kicking off a revved-up public awareness campaign with a Rolling Stones benefit concert that is certified “Climate CoolTM” by NativeEnergy through MusicMatters CoolTour.

Working with MusicMatters CoolTour, NRDC helped build new wind farms to offset pollution created as a result of the concert and achieve a net-zero impact on the climate.

NRDC is leading by example, demonstrating how we all can put renewable energy to work to counteract our carbon dioxide pollution.
