Mandan, Hidatsa, & Arikara Nation Wind

With the help of NativeEnergy, the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation built a 60 kW turbine.

Carbon Project Type: Wind Energy
Location: North Dakota, U.S.A.
Year: 2005
Volume: 2,795 metric tons
Capacity: 60 kW

NativeEnergy's customers helped build a new 60 kW single turbine on the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation reservation in North Dakota. In anticipation of support from NativeEnergy, this turbine was constructed in September 2005 and was fully commissioned in early October.

This single turbine project is the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation's first step in wind development.

Sustainable Development Benefits

  • Reduces 2,795 metric tons of greenhouse gas pollution
  • Replaces polluting grid-based electricity with renewable energy
  • Helps stabilize the electric grid with distributed, small-scale power generation

Project Participants

This project is a collaboration between the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation and NativeEnergy.

Validation and Verification

This project’s emissions reductions were quantified using the Climate Neutral Network methodologies. Its electricity production is third-party verified bi-annually.

Financial Additionality

This project meets NativeEnergy’s stringent additionality criteria, as our funding was necessary to the project’s implementation.
