This Sunday, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium will honor that furry icon of climate change—the polar bear—with a carbon neutral event.

As one of the world’s largest carnivores, polar bears rely on a sea ice habitat where they track seals, their primary source of food. However, climate change has been shrinking this habitat. In recognition of this threat, the Pittsburgh Zoo is observing International Polar Bear Day with its event on February 27.

The event will feature polar bear training sessions at noon and 2pm, energy saving giveaways, and educational tours. The zoo is counteracting the 25 tons of emissions from the event, including those from visitor transportation, with NativeEnergy carbon offsets. International Polar Bear Day reminds us that the consequences of climate change have begun. More than ever, we must take action to reduce our carbon emissions.
