Aveda™ is the first beauty company to offer aerosol hair sprays with net-zero climate pollution.

For Aveda, “net-zero” means that climate emissions that could not be eliminated in the manufacture, shipping and use of every Aveda aerosol hair spray sold globally are being balanced out by an equal amount of greenhouse gas reductions.

Aveda’s sustainability strategy is founded on products that are made from plant and flower-based materials. The company operates an efficient manufacturing facility in Minnesota, and has a record of using offsets from carbon-reduction projects to address a portion of the climate pollution for which it is responsible.

Offering “net-zero” products is the latest step for Aveda. Aveda, a Charter Supporter of the Greensburg Wind Farm, has purchased offsets from Greensburg and other renewable energy projects to “neutralize” Control Force™ Firm Hold Hair Spray.

“From its founding in the 70s, Aveda has strived to integrate respect for the planet and unrivalled quality,” said Chuck Bennett, vice president of earth & community care at Aveda. “We want to enable our customers to realize their aspirations, and make safe and healthy choices for themselves and the Earth.”

Aveda has been engaged with NativeEnergy since 2002. It has helped build several noteworthy projects in addition to the Greensburg Wind Farm, including the Brubaker Farms methane digester and the Salish and Kootenai hydroelectric project. Mary Panks-Holmes, NativeEnergy’s director of client strategy who works closely with Aveda, said, “We are honored to have the opportunity to be a part of Aveda’s new product launch! Our projects could not be built without the support of organizations that are thinking ahead. Aveda is a perfect example of a forward-looking company. From everything I have seen personally, they take uncommon care in developing their products. And when individuals buy Aveda products, they play a key role in helping to build projects that fight global warming.”
