We recently received a note from Mike Brubaker of the Brubaker Family Farm Project. The Brubakers have just been named “2011 Innovative Dairy Farmers of the Year,” an award co-sponsored annually by the International Dairy Foods Association and Dairy Today magazine.

Mike humbly wrote: “The digester (of which you were a necessary partner), some solar projects, and other energy efficient projects on our farm have caused us to apparently be named the ‘Innovative Dairy Farm of the Year’ of the United States.”

With the help of several grants and the support of NativeEnergy customers, the Brubakers’ methane digester and generator was built in 2007. The digester uses cow manure and food waste from a nearby college to produce nearly 5,000 kWh of electricity daily. In addition to the digester, the Brubakers have implemented other sustainability initiatives, including solar panel installation and no-till farming procedures.

Kudos to the Brubakers for their hard work and commitment to the environment!
