NativeEnergy Helps MTV’s Trippin’ Walk Its Talk
Renewable energy leader offsets show’s CO2 pollution, encourages viewers to take action, help build new wind farms to fight global warming.CHARLOTTE, VT, April 21, 2005 – MTV: Music Television’s new eco-reality series “Trippin'” that captures Cameron Diaz and her diverse group of travelers exploring some of the most exotic, environmentally unique places on the planet is the first “climate neutral“ television series. NativeEnergy, a leading national renewable energy company, offset or neutralized all carbon dioxide (CO2) pollution generated by travel and production activities for several episodes, including the series premiere “Nepal”, with Renewable Energy Credits (“Green Tags”) from the only Native American owned wind farm, which the show is actually helping to build.
With leading brands Clif Bar, Ben & Jerry’s, and Dave Matthews Band already on its client list NativeEnergy is excited about the opportunity to reach out to MTV’s audience and build awareness about the threat of global warming and the impact it will have on our environment. “Shows like this will help a new generation realize there are eco-friendly ways of seeing the world, and no matter where you live, travel, or work there are simple and effective things we can all do to help fight global warming,” says NativeEnergy CEO Tom Boucher.
NativeEnergy uses Green Tags purchases to help new renewable energy projects get built, including the Rosebud St. Francis Wind Farm in South Dakota. This new wind farm will generate electricity that would otherwise have to come from a fossil fuel plant on the regional grid. When polluting power generators run less, they put less CO2 into the air. By supporting new renewable energy projects, MTV’s Trippin’ has the same global warming impact as powering the production with wind energy.
Throughout the series, Trippin’ offset more than 800 tons (or 1.6 million pounds) of greenhouse gases. Additionally, MTV and Cameron Diaz’s team partnered with numerous other leading environmental organizations to enlighten the show’s audience about ecological issues across the globe and provide them with the resources to effect change.
With the help of environmental groups such as Clean Air–Cool Planet (www.cleanair-coolplanet.org), MTV.com developed a range of online content and tools enabling young people to learn more about the environment and how they can get involved in their own communities. Features include: a local environmental volunteer opportunity search, 10 Things You Can Do to Save the Earth, a weekly spotlight on a youth environment activist, and an issues primer on the environment.
Viewers can learn more and take action by visiting MTV.com and can also visit NativeEnergy’s web site (www.nativeenergy.com), where they will find information and options for taking personal action, including offsetting their business, travel, or household energy-related CO2.

About NativeEnergy
NativeEnergy is a national marketer of renewable energy credits or “green tags,” offering individuals and organizations a means to compensate for their global warming pollution, or to effectively power their homes and businesses with renewable energy. NativeEnergy’s patent-pending business process brings upfront payment to renewable projects for their future green tag output, enabling its customers to help finance the construction of new wind farms and other renewable energy projects, such as methane digesters on Pennsylvania family dairy farms, which directly reduce our reliance on fossil fuels to meet the nation’s electricity needs.
