Discovery Voyages is one of Alaska's oldest and most respected eco-tour operators. We offer week-long natural history, photography, hiking, kayaking, and outdoor education tours, or, as many past guests say, "The vacation of a lifetime." All tours are within the wilderness waterways of Alaska's Prince William Sound, with all transportation and housing provided onboard our passenger vessel, Discovery.

Planning and implementing long-term, environmentally sound, and sustainable tourism development has always been our goal. Our economic livelihood depends on clean water, wild places, and wildlife. Our hopes are to be in this business for many generations to come.

Our fossil fuel consumption has been minimized to the fullest extent possible using both modern and age-old technology. We contribute economically and with volunteerism to many local and national conservation organization, and encourage our clients to participate in these same processes.

Recently, we've seen the loss of glacial ice mass, the introduction of never-before-seen pathogens in our shellfish because of sea temperature increase, and the loss of wildlife's critical habitat due to global warming.

We believe that we are all responsible for these problems, and over the past 15 years have strived to be as energy efficient as possible. However, try as hard as we might to become more efficient in our non-renewable energy consumption, we now find ourselves up against the limits of efficiency. The nature of our wilderness cruises requires the consumption of some fossil fuel and the addition of more greenhouse gas into the atmosphere!

NativeEnergy and their carbon offset program has offered us an opportunity to help others achieve that which is presently beyond our own business's reach...energy independence and clean emissions.

By contributing to a clean and renewable energy projects' fund managed by Native Energy and based on our annual fossil fuel use and associated carbon footprint, we can help fund wind, solar, farm methane and other renewable energy projects.

Some of these projects are right here in Alaska. A number of Alaska's remote Native villages are converting to wind powered electricity with the help of NativeEnergy's renewable energy programs.

We at Discovery Voyages are overjoyed at discovering this opportunity to contribute to a solution to global warming and continue to improve our own business model.
