Sea Kayak Adventures, Inc became the first sea kayak touring company that we know of to start offsetting the carbon "footprint" of their tour operations. We have always been committed to environmental causes since our youth. Recycling, bicycling, traveling by foot and mass transit as much as possible, and guiding rafting and sea kayaking tours progressed into starting our own company where we could continue to educate people about the wonders of nature. We had seen Al Gore's movie "An Inconvenient Truth" and had been wrestling with the irony of the nature of our business - to share wild areas such as where whales are, folks have to travel far to get there, and we must also use fuel in our operations in order to get travelers to the area where they then enjoy the self-powered pursuit of sea kayaking. So when we started reading about carbon offsetting in magazines, that struck a chord with us as to something concrete we could actually do. We looked on Al Gore's website and found NativeEnergy. So that is how it all started. We want to invite our readers, visitors and guests to visit NativeEnergy's site to learn more and we encourage them to offset their own travel in their own lives. We all need to do what we can now to protect this wonderful world for future generations.

We are honored to have had the opportunity to run our tours since 1993 in Loreto in Baja California, Mexico and in northern Vancouver Island, BC Canada in national and provincial parks there. Since we started, we have done as much as we could to give back to the localities we operate in. We have brought in instructors to train and certify Mexican sea kayak guides over the years. We were the first sea kayak company to develop an aluminum porta potty, which the help of Partner Steel Company in Pocatello, ID. It fits into the center hatch of our double sea kayaks, thus we have packed out all solid human waste from all the areas we kayak in, long before it was required to do so. Naturalist guides and sessions on natural and cultural history are part of each of our tour itineraries, as well as the teaching of basic kayak skills, having fun and observing whales and dolphins up close. We donate regularly to local and national conservation groups. We have seen time and time again how the magic of nature and our unique locations have changed our guests profoundly over the course of their trips. We hope they will go home committed to protecting the planet and spreading the word to others.

Sea Kayak Adventures voluntarily offset 231 tons of carbon emissions, which is the same as putting 28 SUV’s or 38 medium size cars off the road for an entire year.

Sea Kayak Adventures is supporting two different projects: the Schrack Family Farm methane project and Farmer-Owned Distributed Wind Turbines.
