How do you know it will keep operating?
Renewable energy projects typically incur most of their cost up front, for buying, erecting and interconnecting the turbines or other equipmenbt. After that, operating costs are quite low. Further, most of the return on the up front investment is from sales of the underlying electricity and the federal tax benefits that result from the production and sale of the electricity. As a result, the projects are highly motivated economically to generate every kilowatt-hour they can, even though they’ve already been paid by NativeEnergy for the RECs. However, we do require the projects in our contract to use commercially reasonable efforts to continue operating the project during the period of time our REC purchase covers.
