When Hurricane Irene descended on Vermont last weekend, Burlington (including the NativeEnergy office) was relatively unharmed, but the rest of the state wasn’t so lucky.

On Friday, April 22, several NativeEnergy employees marched into the office wearing jeans and work boots. It’s not that we were trying to manifest an early weekend; actually, we were prepared for an afternoon of volunteering at the Intervale Center.

This weekend is the inaugural Architecture & Design Film Festival, which will be held in Waitsfield, Vermont, on September 24th-27th as a benefit for Yestermorrow Design/Build School. Yestermorrow inspires students to create a better and more sustainable world by providing an architectural education that integrates design and building into one continuous process. A selection of over 30 films will inform the audience about how architects and designers think, work, and create.

Several folks on the NativeEnergy team are still feeling the “sama” (calmness of mind) from this past Saturday’s Buddhist gathering in our open office area. Thirteen meditation practitioners from different Buddhist traditions in the greater Burlington area joined with George Hoguet, NativeEnergy’s director of business development, to discover what the Dalai Lama, Thich Nhat Hanh, and 20 of the world’s other greatest Buddhist teachers are saying to their followers about climate change.
